Oracle Cloud Infrastructure will support the Student Cluster Competition (SCC) and the inaugural Data Science Competition (DSC) at SC21 in St. Louis, Missouri. SCC students will compete with hardware that each team bring to the conference along with the added might of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s HPC Bare Metal offerings, High-Performance Storage, and High-Speed Low Latency RDMA Networking. The teams will have access to the latest Intel Ice Lake processors through Oracle BM.Optimized3.36 shapes and the latest NVIDIA Tensor Core A100 GPUs through Oracle BM.GPU4.8 shapes. DSC students will use Oracle’s latest Intel Ice Lake processors and NVIDIA V100 GPUs and have access to the powerful Oracle Data Science Platform that improves productivity with unparalleled platform abilities, such as Batch Jobs, Model Catalog, and Model Deployment.
SCC and DSC aim to immerse teams in the real-world challenges of running a modern Hybrid Cloud HPC system with inflicted obstacles such as fluctuating power caps for on-premise systems and balancing workloads across on-premises and cloud HPC systems. This year, five SCC teams will compete nonstop for 48 hours completing real-world scientific projects, showing off their HPC knowledge to conference attendees and judges.
With the explosive growth of data, organizations need to be able to extract useful features and insights by using AI and ML algorithms running on high-performance NVIDIA GPUs and Intel CPUs. These reasons have made the field of data science quickly become one of the most important areas for organizations and HPC teams to support. This has led SC21 to inaugurate DSC where five teams from across the world will compete in two phases. The first phase starts before the conference kick-off, and the final phase entails team presentations of their work that will be judged by professionals during the conference. This competition will run entirely on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s high-performance Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs along with Oracle Data Science Platform. SC is an internationally renowned conference where current innovative ideas, technologies, and performance gains are shared with the HPC community.
