SUMMARY:Great Edge-pectations: How Edge and Exascale Found Love
DESCRIPTION:Panel\n\nGreat Edge-pectations: How Edge and Exascale Found Lo
ve\n\nBeckman, Ramakrishnan, Stevens, Matsuoka, Van Hensbergen\n\nIt is no
secret that the world’s largest supercomputers are often quite lonely. U
ntil recently, live-streaming sensor data into massive simulations was mor
e exhibit booth demo than reality. Extreme-scale computational models were
isolated, admiring from afar the excitement of edge computing, the Intern
et of Things, smart cities, autonomous cars and intelligent laboratory exp
eriments. From the edge to the cloud, from Cairo to London, however, arti
ficial intelligence (AI) is making its way into every sensor and experimen
tal facility. As AI at the edge begins to bend and break old computing par
adigms into a new shape, it is time for supercomputing to storm out of our
data center citadels and move to the edge. Join our panelists and explore
how edge and exascale will learn a new dance step while they accelerate s
cientific discovery, improve the resilience of cities, expand autonomy and
guide our responses to extreme climate events.\n\nTag: Cloud and Distribu
