SUMMARY:ISAV21: Invited Speaker –3D CFD In-Situ Co-Processing for Turboma
 chinery Design
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\nISAV21: Invited Speaker –3D CFD In-Situ Co-Proces
sing for Turbomachinery Design\n\nGerstenberger\n\nReplacing gas turbine e
ngine and rig tests with virtual simulation-based testing requires more ac
curate physical and mathematical models as well as more detailed geometry
and realistic boundary conditions. However, the improved accuracy is achie
ved at the cost of ever increasing demands on the HPC systems. Among othe
rs, IO bandwidth for reading and writing solver results to disk and the sp
ace it takes to store those results are major limitations for our current
simulation needs. As a remedy, in-situ co-processing has been identified a
s a key ingredient to overcome those IO difficulties, which not only saves
time, but enables new simulation areas that were simply not possible on l
imited HPC resources before.\n\nThis presentation gives an overview on whe
re co-processing is needed within Rolls-Royce. It then illustrates how sev
eral in-situ approaches, in particular Catalyst, Libsim, Sensei, and Score
Board/Kombyne, were assessed and implemented within the LuFo project PREST
IGE. For illustration, a number of example simulations demonstrate the use
fulness of in-situ capabilities for Rolls-Royce CFD applications. Finally,
future steps are outlined to further improve on this initial implementati
on.\n\nTag: Applications, Big Data, Visualization\n\nRegistration Category
