Burlen Loring

Biography
Burlen is a Computer Systems Engineer IV at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and holds a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics with thesis on numerical methods for adaptive mesh refinement in magnetohydrodynamics. Burlen has more than 18 years of professional software engineering, high performance computing, and scientific data analysis experience. Burlen’s expertise includes numerical methods, parallel computing, vector field analysis and visualization, and astro and plasma physics visualization and analysis. Burlen has extensive experience with key HPC technologies such as C++, Python, Fortran, MPI, threads, TBB, OpenMP, CUDA, GPU's, HDF5, NetCDF, ADIOS, sockets, and RDMA. Burlen’s interests include parallel scientific visualization algorithms, large data visualization, and the application of accelerators and advanced hardware technologies to scientific data analysis.
