DescriptionExceptional sysadmins sought to manage systems infrastructure, networks, and information security for a New York–based interdisciplinary research group. Successful hires will be responsible for our servers and cluster environments, including:
• Massively parallel custom supercomputers
• Petabytes of storage
• High-performance local and wide-area networks
• Linux clusters ranging from hundreds to thousands of CPU cores and GPUs
• Making all of the above available to researchers in a secure and convenient way
Ideal candidates will have strong fundamental knowledge of Linux concepts such as file systems, networking, and processes in addition to practical experience administering Linux systems. Relevant areas of expertise might include large-installation systems administration experience, operational experience deploying security tools, and strong programming and scripting ability, but specific knowledge of and level of experience in any of these areas is less critical than intellectual curiosity, versatility, and a track record of achievement. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, and we will consider candidates at all levels of experience. We take great pride in the caliber of our team and offer above-market compensation.

Company DescriptionD. E. Shaw Research is an independent research laboratory that conducts scientific research and technological development in the field of computational biochemistry. Our group focuses on the design of novel algorithms and machine architectures for high-speed MD simulations of proteins and other biological macromolecules, with the aim of significantly advancing the process of drug discovery. We have designed and developed multiple generations of ANTON®, a massively parallel supercomputer that executes MD simulations orders of magnitude faster than was previously possible. Anton has now simulated the behavior of a number of proteins for several milliseconds, revealing biologically and pharmaceutically relevant aspects of protein dynamics.
