Martha (Marti) Head

Biography
Dr. Marti Head is Director of Computational Biomedical Initiatives at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and of the Joint Institute for Biological Sciences, a collaborative research initiative between ORNL and the University of Tennessee focused on new approaches to drug development, personalized treatment, and prediction of health outcomes. Before joining ORNL, Marti built the Insights from Data team at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and was for many years GSK’s Senior Director of Computational Chemistry US. During these COVID times, Marti has been leading the “Molecular design and analysis to inform therapeutics related to COVID-19” project spanning nine Department of Energy National Labs and seeking molecules that inhibit multiple parts of the SARS-CoV-2 viral life cycle; this work was supported by the DOE Office of Science through the National Virtual Biotechnology Laboratory, a consortium of DOE national laboratories focused on response to COVID-19, with funding provided by the Coronavirus CARES Act.
