Biography
Dr. Advait Madhavan is a Faculty Specialist at the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics at the University of Maryland with a joint appointment at the Alternative Computing Group of the Physical Measurement Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2016. His research explores emerging computing approaches based on non-Boolean encoding schemes from the perspective of energy efficiency. His expertise lies at the intersection of VLSI, computer architecture and emerging technologies. His work is aimed at building hybrid circuits that interface emerging technologies -- such as memristors and spintronic devices -- with conventional CMOS, with the objective of realizing unconventional computing approaches which are based on temporal, analog and stochastic codes.
