Simmel joined the Advanced Systems Group at Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) as Grid Computing Specialist in 2001. Currently, as Senior Information Security Officer, Simmel focuses on information and systems security for sponsored projects and national and international research and education collaborations at PSC. Simmel co-leads cybersecurity for the NSF-funded XSEDE U.S. national cyberinfrastructure project. Simmel serves on the OpenHPC Technical Steering Committee and its Governing Board. Since 2011, Simmel has chaired The Americas Grid Policy Management Authority (TAGPMA), one of three regional PMAs of the Interoperable Global Trust Federation (IGTF). TAGPMA accredits authentication providers in the Americas and the Caribbean.
