Biography
Stephen Thomas completed graduate studies at McGill University and the University of Montreal in applied mathematics and computer science. Throughout his career, Dr. Thomas has focused on the intersection of high-performance computing and iterative solvers for large sparse linear systems with applications in climate, geoscience, and renewable energy. He was part of a team that received an honorable mention for the Gordon Bell award at SC2001 for a spectral element climate dynamical core developed at the National Center for Atmospheric research. The main focus of his recent work at NREL has been scalable Krylov solvers and AMG preconditioners suitable for many-core GPU architectures.
