Biography
Fumiyoshi Shoji received his Ph.D. from Kanazawa University, Japan, in 2000. He joined RIKEN Next-Generation supercomputer development project and contributed to developing the K computer from 2006 to 2012 and the supercomputer Fugaku from 2016 to 2021 as an R&D scientist/team leader.

He is currently a division director at the operations and computer technologies division, RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS), responsible for operating and enhancing the Fugaku system and facilities, including substation, chiller, gas turbine power generator, air handler, etc. His current technical interests include operation improvements of large-scale supercomputers and facilities in energy/cost efficiency.

He was awarded the ACM Gordon Bell prize in 2011.
