Marco De La Pierre
Biography
Marco is a Supercomputing Applications Specialist at Pawsey Supercomputing Centre in Perth, Australia, holding a PhD in Materials Science with a specialisation in theoretical and computational chemistry. Joining Pawsey in 2018, he engages with researchers in the fields of computational materials science, computational chemistry and bioinformatics.
His main area of expertise is quantum mechanical calculations and classical molecular dynamics. He is experienced in software development (mostly Fortran, plus a bit of C++), and has accumulated an extensive skill set around workflow automation, portability and reproducibility, featuring the adoption of workflow languages and software containers for HPC. He is also deeply involved in the installation, configuration and management of the scientific software stack on the supercomputer.
Passionate about teaching and training, he has designed and led a variety of modules and workshops.
