Franz-Josef Pfreundt

Biography
Dr. Franz-Josef Pfreundt studied Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science resulting in a Diploma in Mathematics and a Ph.D degree in Mathematical Physics (1986). He was cofounder of the Fraunhofer ITWM and Divison Director and Head of the "Competence Center for HPC. He has been awarded the Fraunhofer Research and the IBM Faculty award.
He was PI for a variety of parallel computing research projects including the development of new parallel programming frameworks. His main research focus are the various aspects of parallel computing especially the convergence of HPC –BIG Data-AI. He stimulated the development of new HPC architectures as part of the EPI project. Recent activities include the development of distributed energy management technologies for the renewable energy market. Today he is the CSO at the Fraunhofer Center for High Performance Computing, which is part of the Fraunhofer ITWM.
